To solve the problems of low computer literacy and e-learning Minister of State for Human Resource Development D Purandeswari said, "Research was being conducted to develop the laptop, especially for use by students, which will cost all of $10. We are carrying research at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras." This measure would help raise the quality of higher education in India, she added while attending inaugural session of e-India 2008. Cheapest laptopThis would be the cheapest laptop of the world. The cheapest laptop available at present is 10 times costlier. It would prove to be a breakthrough device that would be a boon to rural India. It would connect the technology-deprived mass with the cyber world.She also said that government was planning to use information and communications technology (ICT) to strengthen its current programs for distance learning by making it accessible online.There are plans to provide free bandwidth for education purposes to every Indian, an objective that could take time to materialse.

Wow!! This would be great for student's. Atleast they can access sites like http://www.extramarks.com from anywhere anytime and it will avoid them to skip their schools beacuse then studies will be more fun. I can't wait for the moment when i will see student's taking laptop's to school rather taking extra baggage of books on their shoulders.
