With the dream of walking the ramp at India Fashion Week in their eyes, models across India thronged Delhi to give their best shot. Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week Autumn-Winter 2008 is in search of young, vibrant and fresh faces for the upcoming fashion week. The Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) is taking a national model audition and ten lucky girls will get the chance to be the new face of the show.
The preparation for India’s premium fashion show, which is every model and designer desire, is on full swing. International models have shown interest in the India Fashion Week, making the competition even tougher. The FDCI received around 60 entries and each girl was given two minutes to show their calibre. Many newcomers were nervous, as they had to compete against experienced and international models.
Aeshra Patel of Mumbai, said, “I am a bit nervous for the audition, as I am a newcomer and experienced models are always preferred. I have not done any special preparation for the audition. But yes, I keenly observe many international fashion shows and hope that helps me. My plus point is that I have a good height and the right attitude.”
Even for some experience models it was a tough competition. Aanchal said, “I have done many shows before, but I get nervous before all auditions. Competing with a newcomer is tough as they are very talented.”
Delhi model Sahiba Singh, said, “We have to give our best and impress the judges in just two minutes, which is a tough thing to do, but that is where the real talent lies. I have been participating for three years now, but could not get through. Although, this time I have managed to survive till the last. The competition is getting tougher with more professionalism coming into play. This is a do or die situation for many, as this audition gives an direct entry to the most prestigious show.”
Even the International models felt that Indian models are quite talented. Corina from Romania said, “I have participated all over Asia and this is the my first time in India. Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week is a globally recognised event and I will be happy if I get a chance to participate here. Indian models are very professional and talented so competing against them is difficult.”
Even the judges Ranna Gill, Malini Ramani, Abhishek Gupta, Hemant Khandelwal, Anju Modi, Nayanika Chatterji and Asha Kochhar had tough time judging the beauties.
Choreographers Asha Kochhar said, “All the participants were good, but they need to work on their body and posture. We are judging the models on the basis of their height, body and face. Above all models should be able to carry Indian and western silhouettes well.”
Similarly designer Rana Gill said, “Face and looks is the last parameter. The models should have a good body and the right attitude. She should be poised and competent.”
